Stolen from my friends facebook, who made a point to mention how sad it is that mental health issues are misunderstood by society (and I do agreed), but neglected to mention the overwhelming amount of misandry in this situation.

After reading this article, I got to thinking a bit about the nature of societal expectations regarding gender, and it occurred to me that in the classic gender stereotype, a man is a failure when he fails, and a woman is a failure when she succeeds.

Allow me to explain:

A man is expected to be the breadwinner. He must go and work and provide for his family. In the event that he fails to do this, he is looked down upon and ridiculed.

A woman is expected to be the housewife. She must stay at home and cook and clean and take care of the children. In the event that she decides to have a career instead of being a housewife, she is looked down upon and ridiculed.

Just an observation I wanted to share.
