If I wanted to protect my assets pre-divorce, could I gift said assets IE car, big TV, other expensive items officially and legally to others so when asked to split assets she can't take what I don't own.

Not fluent in legalese, but this sounds legit at the time of divorce. Expect the judge to turn against you when he feels like you're taking advantage of the system by not gifting possessions to your now-ex-wife. I suspect that if you ever intend to get the items back, they may be retroactively taken from you though, so your plan wouldn't be good for much more than spite.

I'm not a lawyer, but that's my take on it.

Technically? Yes.

Realistically? No.

Judges can basically do whatever the fuck they want, they could say the items were hers and you had no right to give them away or just go "Hmm, that receipt of sales is legitimate, so is this 10,000$ a month of alimony."

Pre-nups are virtually worthless. And get more worthless as the marriage gets older. All assets owned before marriage belong more and more to the couple as time passes. Anything acquired after the marriage is community property.

For you young guys, the vast majority of you simply don't own enough to matter anyway. Worrying over a car, or even as dwelling, being taken by a spouse is not worth the effort. And as far as a business goes, well it should be incorporated to clearly seperate personal assets from the business assets. And the spouse should be kept totally apart from the business.
