It's fine. Let's not forget our sense of humor in these troubled times. Remember, your grandmother was of a different generation with a different culture where men were expected to drive and women weren't. Yes, gender roles existed then, but we shouldn't let them affect us today.

He shouldn't just have to accept it as a 'joke'. I know I wouldn't like that and my mother knows she could not get away with saying something like that to me. I would just politely say something to the like of, "I don't need any training, I am a capable human being."

I hate things like this because if this was reversed today, no one would stand for it. If my dad and I told my sister we were training her to be a good wife, I know for a fact she sure as hell wouldn't take it as a 'joke'.
