Age of consent laws were not intended to prevent children from being taken advantage of sexually by an older adult, they were meant to control a person's sexuality (the SCOTUS ruled in 2004 that you couldn't do that for adults, but the laws did exist before then to control adults as well). While we have recently begun adding close in age exceptions to the age of consent laws, not everywhere has it, and shit like this keeps happening. See also children being charged for sexting.

Because consensual sex or sexual photograph is SO much worse than being convicted of a sex crime against a child (10-20 years from now, you think anyone is going to look up what actually happened before demonizing them?).

No crime was committed except by the girl. The article sort of says that. Just says they are letting someone else sort it out.

So sorry for not including men but it is normally men that rape women not the other way around unless a child were molested, etc.....

MelissaD's opinion is clear. Rape is a terrible thing for women, but for men it's less terrible because she believes it's other men who do it. By her logic we can assume that if women rape other women, that's no big deal, right?
