Here's a start:

Men spend much more time at work than women. According to Statistics Canada, men in 2005 spent on average 6.3 hours per day doing paid work as opposed to 4.4 for women. Yes, they did less unpaid work on average per day (2.5 hours per day versus 4.3), but it evens out. On average, men spent 8.8 hours and women did 8.7 hours per day of paid and unpaid work!

A recent 25-nation study by economists from Berlin, Brussels and Texas, which included rich and poor nations, found men do as much work as women when all types of work are combined.

There may he some merit to that, but not for the reason that she thinks. Most women I've dated have had far more stringent housekeeping mores than I. And they think that that gives them the right to impose those mores on others. So ultimately, they obsess over chorish duties that aren't really important to me. I think more mend tend to care more about function and less about form then women. So all that Joan Crawford OCD shit is self imposed and if thy cut it the fuck out, their relationships would probably benefit.

But then they'd have one less thing to whinge about.

Modern Parenthood by Pew Research was released a few months back. It focuses on mostly parents so there's no data for childless couples but it's pretty comprehensive. The appendix contains definitions for what constitutes work and leisure time etc.

TL;DR:

When paid work, child care and housework are combined, parents in dual-income households have a more equal division of labor than parents in single-earner households. In dual-income households, fathers put in, on average, 58 hours of total work time a week, compared with 59 hours for mothers. In households where the father is the sole breadwinner, his total workload exceeds that of his spouse or partner by roughly 11 hours (57 vs. 46 hours per week). In households where the mother is the sole breadwinner, her total workload exceeds that of her spouse or partner by about 25 hours (58 vs. 33 hours per week).

Doesn't her argument boil down to the notion that women should be paid more by employers in exchange for doing housework for their families, which to any sane person is clearly absurd?

In an environment where a couple work different hours and do different amounts of housework, it's down them them to work out what finances they share.

The Second Shift is an actual book. I would suggest starting there and looking at what is omitted from the questions and narratives in the book. It looked at traditionally female tasks in the home while ignoring the traditionally male tasks in the home. This created a disparity in the data. But again, I suggest reading the book itself.

The only peer review you need is common sense and history.

Generally, women define work differently than men do. Men don't consider cooking a meal for their family as "work", thats why we usually like to cook outside on the grill to make an experience the entire family can enjoy, and include the kids and the wife so we all participate.

Heck, some women consider running the sweeper as "work", but would cringe if a man cleaning up the yard, garage or basement similarly claimed it was "work".

Men and women were never meant to compete. We are complimentary to each other... each serving unique and critical tasks to round out a family existence. Like pieces of a puzzle fitting together.

We are being conditioned and manipulated into competing, and as history shows, women can be manipulated and conditioned much easier and faster than men in general.

This is bullshit because it assumes that men and women work the same number of hours at their jobs, which they don't. If women are putting in more hours at home then that means they are working fewer hours at the office.

Tell your sister to stop spreading lies.

Tell her that that labor isn't unpaid given they benefit in room, board, and any luxuries provided by the primary earner.
