For the past twelve years or so, we have seen an unprecedented erosion of our civil righs as citizens. Under misnomers such as "The Patriot Act" the United States Government has invaded our privacy in ways, we are now learning, cannot even be measured, because apparently the laws that we thought were protecting us have not been adhered to, even by the President of the United States.

Where has the women's movement been in all this? Ironically, almost completely silent. Why?

The women's movement benefits from fewer equal rights because it makes it easier to silence ideas they don't like if people generally have fewer rights of free speech to enjoy. Their work on Facebook censorship and other social media is an excellent example of this. Basically, what it comes down to is that a huge segment of the population has either been advocating directly for fewer freedoms, or at best looking the other way.

Edward Snowden is a Men's Rights issue by default. Clearly, women as a social group have a lousy record for upholding our personal freedoms. The reason the United States Government can do these things is because their constituency -- with a majority being women -- agree to let them. Do you see a lot of women's groups defending Edward Snowden? (The correct answer is no).
