This problem is a bit of a throwback that I have been dwelling on, as I have been out of school for many years. The issue is this: when a female highschool student asks to use the bathroom for personal reasons, the teacher will usually let her go. A male student will usually face much stronger criticism when he needs to use the bathroom in class.

I get the idea, women have menstrual issues. However, as someone growing up with severe GI issues, this was not a fun double standard for me. Teachers should not assume that boys are trying to sneak out of class, while girls just need to change their tampon. /rant
