If these feminists loathe the Catholic Church so much, why would they even want women to be priests? Wouldn't it be easier for them to form their own church?

I've been seeing a bunch of articles in this vein recently, editorials that are out to shame the Catholic church with words like 'equality' and that actually suggest the church should be a populist democratic organization.

There's something Thomas More says in a Man For All Seasons: "...the Supreme Government of [the church] no temporal person may by any law presume to take upon him. This was granted by the mouth of our Savior, Christ himself, to Saint Peter and the Bishops of Rome whilst He lived and was personally present here on earth."

Catholics believe that God himself is the direct source of the Pope's mandate, and obedience to his authority, regardless of what he tells Catholics to do, is fundamental.

Regardless of whether or not you are Catholic, or believe in Catholicism on any level, doesn't it just feel really presumptuous and insulting that leftist commentators think they know better how the church should be run than the leader that God himself selected to run the church does?

I'm more upset that the new pope isn't a secularist. :)

I think it is actually possible for nuns to be cardinals, since the only requirement is that they be appointed by the Pope.

Also, if you want the RCC to introduce female priests in the first world, the best way to do that is to exclude priests from the skilled immigrant rules, so they have to compete with unskilled labourers for immigration places (and in many countries, they fill up whatever space is left in the immigration quota after skilled migrants, military recruits, refugees, and so on are all allocated). That will cut the supply of immigrant priests, and potentially force bishops to invoke the rule which allows female priests in situations where there are insufficient male priests (a rule which is in effect in parts of China where there are too few unofficial priests).

Since women can be permanent deacons (a kind of inferior part-time priest, who can do everything except consecrate communion, but who can be married), it doesn't seem that unlikely that many parishes will end up run by married or female leaders anyway, with just periodic visits from male priests.
