What I love about these sorts of stories is yes, shitty thing to happen, but the hypocrisy of the situation isn't lost even on the average commenter on the news sites. They see this shit for what it is, though it is admittedly a quite extreme example of the kind of double standard we see women often take over these situations.

So she earned £10.5M in bonuses alone during their marriage and he was awarded only £2M in the end. It still sucks, she shouldn't have to pay anything if he cheated on her but there have been much worse example of ridiculous divorce settlements than this. Ray Parlour having to split assets and give 1/3 of all future earnings to his ex being one of the worst I've heard about.

This is small potatoes compared to that.

The situation is ridiculous though, cheating on your spouse should not result in reward.

As far as I understand, 3% of alimony payers (or alimony paid?) are women. But women seem to be at the forefront of most serious efforts to lobby for alimony reform in the US, where many states have some of the most non-earning spouse-friendly laws and legal practice in the world (in my country, the much vaunted feminist Utopia of Sweden, alimony is rarely awarded and, if so, only for a transition period, while child support is capped at around 1,000 a month and applies only if one spouse renounces default shared custody).

Why are men alimony payers not speaking out more strongly? Why are the few women that have to pay so much better organised? And why are we scoffing at this woman rather than join forces with her? I doubt that she said it is only an issue when women have to pay; why would we assume that?

Wow. This is unfair, but I'm all like, 1. This is small potatoes, 2. Oh yeah, sure NOW it's unfair. 3. This is like if somebody in Israel who spied for the U.S got the same unjust sentence Jonathan Pollard got and everyone was on the streets condemning Israel and protesting the unfairness when they mocked Pollard and derided him. 4. This is also like if in the world of the Merchant of Venice some Catholic in England was forced to convert and Catholic people like Antonio, when forcibly converted Shylock, protested the unfairness, when HE and a lot of those other protestors forcibly converted people as well. I mean, yes, it's unfair, but what about when it happens to men. I mean, I would only be a little shocked if this happened to male abuse victims as well.
