I think you got some pretty reasonable answers in that thread.

This is a thing feminists have talked about. I'm with you: there's too much emphasis on male heroes punching their way out of problems, although He-Man is a bit dated if we're measuring the current zeitgeist.

I think the problem is less to do with the muscle-warrior archetype in and of itself so much as there not being more and better alternative archetypes for those among us not so inclined as to be literal warriors.

I'm more concerned with the message cabbage patch dolls gave women, I'm certain that Roseann Barr must've been given one at one point.

Seriously, the idea that kids take dolls as their idols and then spend the rest of their lives trying to emulate them is ridiculous, with possibly a few barbie 'look alike' exceptions.

In reply to a comment that women are only judged on looks and that men are judged on their assertiveness, skills and intelligence, I pointed out that this would explain why men earn more than women and that there is no pay gap. I was banned for brigading (fair enough) so I messaged the mod in question to ask: Hey, if I'm banned from askfeminists, how am I ever going to find out things that aren't true?

Fun fact: The original Barbie doll had far more realistic proportions in the beginning, but became curvier in response to the demands and preferences of the girls who play with dolls.

It turns out that a toy with an unrealistic body type was more interesting to girls. Kind of like how people tend to enjoy seeing artwork which depicts exaggerated human forms and extremely beautiful people in imaginative situations rather than going-around looking at more realistic flabby average-looking people that you can see on the street. (Picasso's humans weren't exactly "realistic" either.)

So this feminist conspiracy theory in which Barbie was concocted by evil tycoons to give young girls anorexia, it's absurd and backwards and ignorantly ripped-out of context. Toy companies are rather good at finding out what kids enjoy playing with. If kids don't like playing with something, the toy won't sell very well. I don't understand why the business model of toy companies is so very difficult for people to figure out, especially when one is commenting on the production and marketing of toys.
