Got banned from Unpopular Opinion for this post. Let's try this on you guys: drag is an outdated concept. Women can wear trousers, men can wear dresses. It's not an achievement or worthy of a hit TV show. Do what thou wilt. Wear what thou wilt. No such thing as men's or women' clothing.

Drag isn't the same as cross dressing, and women wearing pants isn't the same as cross dressing. Drag is a distinct art style based upon exaggerated characteristics. Men in drag use contouring as well as padding to have exaggerated features that border on parody, and that's fine by me.

Cross dressing as a woman is more than just pants, though that wasn't the case in the past. The gender norms on women's clothing have reduced, but there are still places a woman can cross dress. For example, slacks, a polo shirt, and a fedora crosses the line to cross dressing. It's just not something you'd see a woman wear. Also, there are drag kings that use contouring, fake facial hair, and padding to portray as an exaggerated form of masculinity.

Don't get me wrong, cross dressing is fine. Drag is fine. I'm just saying that we do live in a society where certain garb has gendered connotations. I see nothing wrong with defying such norms, but you should still acknowledge the norms exist.

The part that gets me annoyed is that people feel like they need to identity as trans if they want to violate gender norms. It might annoy me less if the people doing so didn't constantly claim to be abolishing the gender binary. The way you would do that is by identifying as a woman and following some man gender norms or the reverse. Proclaiming you're not a woman because you follow more male gender norms isn't destroying the binary, it's enforcing it.

I'm also not saying that destroying the gender binary is a good or bad thing. I'm just saying that their argument is extremely flawed and it should be acknowledged as such.

Considering that males have bits hanging and woman don't. Why haven't we tried taking back the skirt? It just makes more sense. Sure pants have the space but damn if that lack of material doesn't make it easier to spread out. Iirc didn't it swap around that woman used to wear trousers?

Yeaaah I have sometimes felt this way. I find the caricatures of women/femininity are kind of gross at times. But then there's also a part of me which is impressed by their sewing/design/construction skills and outlandish transformative makeup which makes them happy and doesn't really bother anybody. I am kind of undecided to be honest.

Personally, due to personal history, I prefer dresses and skirts on women than pants and shorts; I prefer the more traditional look, for sure. As for men, since I've never been to Scotland or anywhere with kilts, I definitely view pants and shorts as masculine clothes.

That's just me and my preferences, though.

There is your answer. If men started to wear dresses all the time then people would stop calling it drag. Right now it's extremely rare and it won't change anytime soon because quite frankly the majority of men don't want to wear a dress.

It also doesn't help that men wearing lingerie and dresses are almost always sexual in nature and it's almost always tied to a sexual fetish. Straight guys won't wear them because they don't want to be considered gay.

I wouldn't call a man in a dress a drag but I'd definitely think that he is gay and it's not just a fashion statement. I'd be 99.999% right.

There is nothing to complain about here because it's basic human nature. It's like wearing pink clothes to a funeral, it will attract attention. If more people started wearing pink to a funeral then it would eventually become accepted.
