What's interesting is that they don't press charges against the accuser after finding evidence that she and her friend have done this before.

It never occurs to any of the police to hold the woman accountable.

"I found episode 2 very powerful. And very brave of them not only to portray a wrongful accusation but also give us a picture of what something like that can do to someone’s life. And the character in the show is right - there’s no come back for someone falsely accused, except perhaps through the civil court. But as far as the police are concerned the only thing they can charge a false accuser of is perverting the course of justice or wasting police time - so the system is a victim but the person falsely accused, paraded in front of everyone, and has their life ruined just has to get on with it!?!

"Wow Sarah, what a completely two dimensional response to Episode 2. I haven't seen Episode 3 and 4 yet, but I was so blown away by episode 2 that I came online to see what others thought about it.The whole point and idea of the show is that these crimes and situations are never black and white, clear cut... you see that in the first episode when we think we know all the facts - the killer is arrested and in prison, but they're just interviewing the wife to get more details. But suddenly, it becomes not quite the case...

It's the same with episode 2 - sure, they lean in to it with his arrogant personality that he is obviously guilty and gets what he deserves, but then it gradually becomes clear that he is in fact likely a victim here, rather than the perpetrator. But in your eyes... it's bad that a TV show even THINKS about doing a story like this, right? In any story about rape, it must always be "man = bad, woman = innocent", end of, right? Then you'd be happy?

Your "argument" about the 2-10% thing as well is pointless as well - as others in these comments have pointed out, that's only for ones PROVEN to be false! And even then, 10% still amounts to thousands of cases - innocent lives potentially ruined and changed for the worst.Sure, false rape accusations may not be as numerous as actual rape cases, and it is of course important to raise awareness about victims of actual rape, but that's doesn't mean it isn't worth doing a story (or in this case, a well crafted and brilliantly acted TV episode) about false accusations and how it can affect those wrongly accused.
