This makes me cringe too but I learned that paying a woman’s/man’s bills is an accepted practice in some cultures. Don’t get me wrong I have no want of that from a man and think it is a strange idea to me. However, there is a certain culture here in the southern US that does have some expectation of bills being paid when entering a relationship long term (not even moving in together just more of a monogamous relationship status). Of course it would be generalizing to say ALL people of a certain ethnic or background are this way so I can’t however when I was in the dating game and dated men of other ethnicities (especially this one) and when I speak to friends of this one group it is discussed as part of the relationship process as more of a norm in my area (southern US). This journalist may be a part of this culture.

It’s strange to me to expect someone to pay a bill when just dating someone even if we have been together for a few years to pay someone bills but that’s just me. I only did it like once as more of a gift to help out during a tough time (would have done it for any close friend I knew was struggling and I could afford to help) than an expected part of the relationship.

To each there own I just am pointing out that to some people this is not something totally bizarre.

Source - I managed an operation devoted to college loan debt collections. I didn't stay in it long, but I know how to get through it with minimum pain and stress. This girl doesn't know shit, except how to whine and get her way. Sometimes.
