Mother abandons baby on a beach. Baby dies. Why are the police concerned for the "health and wellbeing of the baby's mother" rather than treating this as a murder/manslaughter investigation? What about the rights of the father?

Where does it actually say she abandoned the child to die? More information is needed to understand what is really happening than just the headline which alludes nothing to your claim the mother did this of her own free will.

We always say that facts matter and that evidence is key when talking about crimes. You gave nothing here to support your claim.

This is very misleading. They don't know how the baby died. They don't know any of the circumstances. Expressing concern for the mother is entirely reasonable because there are a lot of reasons why a woman would neglect seeking medical care during a pregnancy, many of them raising red flags over her situation.

It may help if you post the actual article, not just the headline. However since baby was not born in the hospital, mom could have bleeding or issues from birth that need to be checked. If mom dies like this, there is no justice for baby.

They are probably concerned for the health and wellbeing of the mother because they aren't sure who left the baby there.

Actually there is no evidence that the mother abandoned the baby. It could have been the father who abandoned and/or killed the baby. They are worried about the mother because in cases of abandoned newborns there is a very high rate of incest, extremely underage mothers and domestic abuse. As in for example there is a much higher than normally expected possibility that the mother is some 12 year old impregnated by a family member, forced to hide the pregnancy and give birth in secret without medical care, and then some family member abandoned and/or killed the baby. So, yeah, they might be worried about her.
