Indeed. Such an insane article trying to deny the most basic and obvious facts.

[–]RichardJLyon15 points 6 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

I just read it. Parental alienation is “junk science”.

Criticises guidance given to courts to assume that children benefit from contact with both parents (I.e. the father). (This is rooted in hard feminist jurisprudence that seeks an end to nuclear families as the foundation of society).

“growing evidence” of its claim amounts to: an uncited academic paper; some feminist advocacy “research”; and a selection of cherry picked anecdotes from hostile jurisdictions.

All of this from an ideology that tolerates spoof academic papers claiming that tolerance of dog rape in public parks is evidence of rape culture, and the publication of sections of Mein Kampf reframed in the language of intersectional feminism.

In short: highly persuasive to those susceptible to its arguments; a confection of intellectual dishonesty to everyone else.

What's the issue with feminist advocacy research?

[–]RichardJLyon14 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Academic research attempts to discover novel truth about the world from available data.

Feminist advocacy “research” makes untruthful claims about the world to support desired political outcomes.

So: it’s necessary to overturn the current assumption that children benefit from contact from both parents. Feminist advocacy research will cherry pick data from cases where that has not been the case that validates the hypotheses that they do not. Alliances of feminist journals then construct webs of citations to manufacture an appearance of credibility.

Another technique- widening the definition of a term.

Say you want to “find” that domestic violence is a “gendered crime” because men are “more violent”. Widen the definition of violence to include verbal abuse. Men employ verbal abuse more than women. So men are “more violent”.

This nearly obscured the fact that women are twice as likely as men to use a weapon during incidents, and more likely when arrested to be prosecuted for grievous bodily harm.

This technique is particularly useful in, say, manufacturing the perception that rape is “epidemic”. In one investigation of distortion of evidence in feminist advocacy “research”, women in a published study who, it was claimed, were victims of rape were contacted and invited to say whether they agreed or disagreed. Very many disagreed that they had been the victims of rape.

If you don't mind, what's wrong in this case?

[–]RedditAdminsHateCons 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you spend decades lying to me, I'm just going to stop hearing you out. This 'research', for instance, isn't even actually cited.

But there are a number of tricks feminists typically use to lie to people about family court. The first is that men often get custody when they seek it. They don't, and the only 'source' they can point to on this is a tiny study performed in one county of Massachusetts back in the 80s. But even if this was true, it would ignore the fact that lawyers will only suggest that men seek custody when it's a slam dunk because family court is so heavily biased against men that there's no point in bothering otherwise.

Then there's the 'Women are worse off after divorce, so why would they seek it frivilously?' claim, where feminists use the bias of the tax code to mislead people. Because alimony and child support is taxed before it's turned over to the woman, technically it's counted as taxable income for men but NEVER as income for women in their studies. So they use this to simultaneously hide women's income while artificially inflating men's income even though it's women who end up actually spending this money and men have no access to it under penalty of law.

Feminist research is rarely genuine and almost always conducted with a pre-arrainged result in mind.

If it's 'advocacy', it can't be real research. Genuine research is about finding facts, not forcing facts to fit into a specific agenda.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At a glance, it's a Gish gallop

[–]orangeLILpumpkin 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since 97% of alimony payers are men, it seems like there's probably not a lot of merit.

[–]DubsPackage 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article puts forth the idea that women are the "default parent" and men must prove XYZ and be on good terms with the mother in order to have access to their children.

In other words making women the arbiters and gatekeepers of what is good for children and whether a father should be involved in his child's life based on similarly biased "Duluth Model" that incorrectly frames women as eternal victims.

[–]Lethn 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's just outright lying and making shit up or they've interviewed people like for instance the women involved in these cases who will inevitably have an agenda. I actually don't know who would genuinely believe this aside from other feminists yet they insist on peddling this myth that family courts are biased in favour of fathers to paint themselves as the victims. I mean it works in our favour because even the most casual people who don't look at this stuff regularly are going to go hang on a minute at this.

I'm actually kind of amazed this was written so recently and I double check the date just to make sure this wasn't a repost so good job finding it. I wonder if feminists know there's a growing amount of sympathy for fathers and the cause that MRAs are proposing so they're trying to drum up some counter propaganda to make it out that MRAs are just full of shit but they've done a really bad job of it even by their standards.

Here's the first thing I noticed; the author is appealing to emotion.

She defends her position by stating that 50 children die in 25 years by abusive parents.

...I mean, it doesn't take much intelligence why it's outright asinine. It's basically 2 child deaths per year. Which is not as remarkable as the author makes it out to be.

[–]darkbluexanadu 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Notice too that didnt specify fathers. Willing to bet because they majority were by the mother.

Its also interesting to note she totally dismissed parental alienation syndrome.

And her whole article is a "whataboutism" to try and make her point. Judges are more sceptical of claims of abuse? Gee...in divorce cases i wonder why?

[–]jbbf__nlebbh 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No evidence, no sources. This form of ‘news’ needs to stop being normalized

[–]Tacoboutit2me 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good old, don't believe your eyes, just believe what I tell you.

Remember that the fallacy about movie producers trading sexual favors for parts.

[–]furchfur 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The family courts are 100% biased against men.

This is blatant feminist propaganda. Feminists do not want to give up rights over children to men and want to be able to use alienation and false accusation without penalty.
