Interesting take.

The core argument the essay is making is that socialism will ultimately resolve family and masculinity issues as it will remove financial pressure for men to provide, which is what the author believes is the root cause of family issues.

While I agree with much of what the author is saying, where I think the author falls short is that she is essentially advocating for a purely economic solution to an economic and social problem.

For example, the author says:

I don’t believe that men are so thoroughly heartless they need a financial obligation to remind them to love their children. I think they need the same things women need to be good parents—time and money. A culture of involved fatherhood will follow from those two basic conditions.

It presumes the only limiting factors are essentially economic ones. How would socialist policy address bias in family courts? Or cultural attitudes towards fathers? How would it address broader male issues, which are intimately linked with fatherhood? The author points to Sweden to a success - the suicide gender gap in Sweden is large as ever. Socialist policy is great, but it's only one part of the puzzle.

Edit: To rephrase my point, the essay wants to remove the male provider role, and replace it with... nothing? The author just assumes everything will somehow sort itself out. Not to mention men will still be doing most of the work in a socialized economy.

Amazing article. For the longest time, you would only see MRA/reactionary dudes talk about this and take it in some trad con direction. But it’s awesome to read the same complaints properly contextualized and with a course of action that doesn’t involve male shaming. Also, the point about modern feminist discourse the same as church is right on the money. Nobody likes empty platitudes “do better!/pray!” With a side of deep shame
