Why as a man, am I never asked permission if a woman (usually a nurse) can observe an intimate procedure that involves me undressing?

"To impose a lesser sentence on a female offender than that which would be imposed on a male offender for a similar crime would infringe the rights of male offenders," the judge added.

Sometimes the system actually works.

I was positively surprised by this as well. Additionally, I appreciated that the judge acknowledged that boys suffer many of the same negative consequences psychologically. Especially since denying this is typically used to excuse female on male abuse.

What a chad of a judge. We need more principled individuals in courtrooms.

I have two relatively common and straightforward questions.

"What is her name."

"Where is her picture."

If this were a man, we would know that info.

Also, not 5.5 years, despite what the judge said.

Not necessarily; it looks like a publication ban to protect the minor’s identity and privacy. Perhaps he specifically asked for that because identifying Mrs. P would “out him” and he didn’t want that.

Often we learn names and photos, but not always. The judge seemed level-headed in the approach and I’m assuming then that the publication ban was also for fair reasons and wasn’t provided as a means of giving a woman an advantage in the system.

I wonder if she had to register on the sex offenders database

[–]miraculous- 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, it would be a microaggression to force her to do such a thing /s

The judge cited the boy's continued emotional and physical suffering as factors in his sentencing decision.

"It is necessary to reject the stereotype that teenage boys are less vulnerable to the sequelae of sexual assault than are teenage girls," he wrote.

Well said judge. Respect!

a man would probably get 15 years for the same crime

[–]goinsouth85 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You might be right for the United States - but this was in Canada.

[–]hunglikewatchbattery[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude this is in Canada, we are known for light sentences for basically everything. Some people literally get 5 years for man slaughter here.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they literally would not. Go look at statistics for jail time of similar crimes before you spill your bile in this sub

That’s… Very impressive. If only most judges were that intelligent.
