I (22F) have been shy my entire life - over time, and especially after I started college, I got a lot better at dealing with people and being more comfortable around strangers. That being said, I still deal with a lot of anxiety right before important social events or whenever I know I'll be surrounded by strangers.

Whenever I get in my head and start acting shy, I get really quiet and my body language clearly shows how uncomfortable I feel. It's not polite and I wouldn't say it's feminine.

The man I'm going out with is introducing me to his friends this Friday. It's a work thing and he's speaking about something - so I'll be on my own for a little bit. I don't know anyone there. I'm going to ask him to introduce me to at least a friend or two beforehand, but... still. There's a 10+ year age gap between me and everyone there. They're all very, very intelligent and known in the field they're in. I am a uni student still. I know my date doesn't care, but I'm afraid others might find it weird that I'm there or dislike me for being so young & not as educated as them. I'm feeling a little anxious & insecure but I wanna cause a good impression.

How did you handle your shyness? What advice helped you deal with certain social situations more easily? Are there any guides or tips on how to be polite and charming regardless of the topic people are talking about?

I'll accept all & any insight! Thank you so much!
