I believe my divorce will be contested. We don't have children or much in the way of assets, but I don't think she'll sign papers. I also do not want to tip her off that I'm filing. In the interests of doing things as cheaply as possible and getting a date of filing on the books, can I file at the courthouse myself and then lawyer up later as needed? I really want to get the ball rolling, don't want her to see it coming. I have an attorney I've used before, who I could retain later. I just want to start the clock (there is a waiting period in my state).
