I come from a European Catholic country and when I was a child it was impossible to meet someone who was not a Catholic.

Catholic teaching nowadays is that men and women are and should be equal in many respects - for example in the eyes of the law. But we have different roles both in the family and in society. It does not mean that these roles are not interchangeable when needed but nature gave women organs that produce all the food that a growing human needs for its first few months of its life for a reason.

Today it was refreshing to read a post by a woman in the Catholic sub. She complained that the Catholic church in her area was organising a sort of show and tell for men and boys 14+. The men meet once a week and those with a particular skill teach the others. We are talking about skills that are typically considered 'manly'. So once week they get a guy who shows all the things which you can do with an electric screw driver, then they get someone who explains plumbing.

I agreed with her that it is unfair that women were not given an alternative - all that she wanted was for the male priest to keep in mind that women need to learn certain skills too.
