Like many who visit this subreddit, I live in the U.S (was born here) of South Asian origin. I know the general consensus around marriage is to not marry because of the divorce laws favoring women. Two of my uncles lost everything in their divorces, so I am very familiar with how Family Law treats Men. But for religious reasons, as I am a Muslim, I would like to marry because any sort of sexual intercourse outside of marriage is strictly forbidden, and marriage is considered half of our faith in Islam, so it's pretty big. But given the anti-male environment in the West, I find myself in a catch-22 situation. So I've thought of pursuing marriage with several contingencies, but there's still downsides to each one.

  1. Prenuptual Agreement. I would not get married without one, and that too to a woman making around the same amount of money as me. However, I am well aware they are often thrown out. To protect my assets, I would put them in a Trust or maybe co-own with my sibling.
  2. Going abroad to a middle eastern country (i.e Dubai in the United Arab Emirates) - Laws are definitely fairer on that side of the world, but downside is that they don't offer citizenship to foreigners. You can only get work visas, but if you lose your job, you have to leave the country.
  3. Second citizenship - Some countries like St. Lucia let you buy citizenship, which can be useful if shit is truly hitting the fan in a potential divorce, and you are getting reamed by child support + alimony + legal fees + forfeiture of assets, might be a good idea to just leave the US altogether. But the downside is that I don't have that much money laying around right now, and countries like those are new territories for sure and starting over alone over there could be difficult.
