100%! My divorce was finalized in July. We separated about June of last year. When I say separated, what I mean is she called the police on me for suicidal threats. Everyday for 5 days straight. I'll admit, I was depressed. I thought I could confide in her and tell her how I was feeling. Essentially I was not allowed to watch our three children alone. For things like, I would let them listen to music that they wanted to but, she didn't approve of. Or my favorite, allow them to watch TV, play video games on my phone. Essentially she never trusted me to know what was appropriate for children. The thing that took me over the edge was when I was told I wasn't allowed to celebrate Christmas! We (her included, I made it very clear at our very first Christmas together this was my favorite time of year) celebrated every year until that last year.
I never threatened suicide. Just told her that sometimes I don't want to live anymore. (I wasn't "allowed" to celebrate Christmas, that shit broke me.) Those are not the same things. The police believed me the first four times. I never had any intentions. The last time I believe they thought that they had to do something. So I was Baker acted. Then after being released two days later I went home. Of course she called the cops on me again. This time they had documentation! I was forced out of my home (my ex is a SAHM).
I emptied my 401k and borrowed heavily against my life insurance policy to stay close as I could to my children. She constantly refused to allow me to see them. No DV was ever filed or claimed. Every time I went to visit kids she would call the police. Even after she agreed I could see them. Every time they told me theres nothing they can do! It's a civil matter!
Throughout our separation I wished something would happen to me to cause it to be over. She would get my insurance, kids would be taken care of and I would no longer feel.
Something did happen! We finalized our divorce! I moved 1700 miles away! I have seen my kids more in the last 3 months than I did in the previous year!
Things get better! Move on and forward. Unfortunately Texas is heavily weighted towards mothers on custody. But I'll still get to spend more quality time with my children living 1700 Miles away. More than when I was living in the same house with them.
Kids are all boys. 3,6 and 13. She changed dramatically after COVID! All my friends became "evil". My work schedule all of a sudden became too difficult for her to deal with, etc.
