Not a political post, please don’t sidetrack!

A phrase that I’ve heard over and over and over in this Gaza/Israel conflict is how many women and children are getting killed. This phrase is used to describe non-combatant casualties on both sides.

The phrase is designed to evoke a primal guardian instinct and sympathy.

In a modern, liberal country like Israel, where men and women are equal, what’s the need to distinguish that Hamas killed “women and children”. Did the Hamas not kill men? Did they go around saying “oh you’re a man, we’ll let you go. Our issue is only with your women and children”

Israel is just so cucked: - men have to serve 3 years in the army, women only 2 - women usually serve in non-combatant roles - 94% of combat roles are men - women can weasel their way out of military service easily vs men - same divorce rate as the west

Imo, the only circumstances in which a society can call out female deaths at the exclusion of male deaths are when these criteria are met: - men have responsibility and authority over women - women’s loyalty to men is enforced via the social contract of society and government

But if you don’t have that social contract and men and women and “equal”, why does it matter? And if it’s vitally important to highlight that women are killed, can we quantity how many male lives a woman is equal to so we can fully understand what society thinks of men?
