Live in Indiana. 50/50 custody 2 girls. Last night get a call from my kids off their tablets. They are 8 and 6. Saying they heard a noise and they are scared. I ask where mom is. Apparently she went out grocery shopping and left them home alone.

Keeping them on the tablet is start recording. Contact police department where she lives non emergency.

Officer calls right away and tells me. “We can’t really do anything no crime has been committed. There is no mandatory minimum age to leave children alone in the state of Indiana . Maybe wait another few hours and we might be able to do something.” I ask if they can just be a well being check until I get there since I’m 25 min away. He tells me he cannot and the best he can do is a drive by.

It is unreal to me that we tell kids they aren’t old enough to be in their best interest to decide where they live but they are old enough to be left home alone for 2 hours.

Mind you if I was owing child support I’d have my license taken passport stripped and thrown in jail. (Yes I have 50/50 with no college degree pay for daycare carry dental vision and health and I still owe her child support each week even though she has 2 masters degrees.)

The system is broken and it’s no surprise we have no trust in the system.

Just a vent post here stay strong out there guys.
