Marriage is just formality, and you can be in a relationship without it.

I'm not sure I understand what you're really asking. To answer the flat question marriage is more important than sex however a healthy sex life is important within a good marriage. As for your boyfriend I don't know what to say. If he won't marry you because he sees no future in your relationship then I think you have your answer. But if he is just not a fan of the institution of marriage then you have work to do. Is that what he really means or is it a cover for not wanting a long term marriage. I wish you well.
