If you know that level of detail about him I think it’s safe to assume you are at a minimum friends. I think it’s a great idea to give a personal gift. He will love it. Usually we get stupid shit golf clubs, yard shit, clothes. Stuff we like but really don’t give a shit about. Personal gift, great idea. It’s thoughtful.

That is a great gift idea!!! It shows that you took a moment to actually think about him and find something that (1) you though he would like and (2) that was something you shared - your love of space! It’s literally perfect!

The picture can be seen as a “gift from a friend” easily. The fact that it’s personalized is because you care about your friends and put some effort into them. Do not ever feel bad about this! It’s a great quality!

From the way you started your post I thought you were going to give him sexy underwear or something! Your gift choice is perfectly fitting and he will love it!

If it’s cheap but insightful go for it, if it’s expensive or takes trouble to get and he isn’t that much into you (yet) it will be a sign of overinvestment and possibly make things feel forced down a path and take away the fun lightness of dating.

Hard to say, you know him better than any of us.

But if I would’ve told a girl that my bday is coming up, then it’s definitely nice either getting a gift or celebrating with that girl.

And if you feel like you know each other well, and since you are both space nerds it’s a cool gift.

Again, it’s really hard to tell when we don’t know more about the both of you, BUT the gift sounds way better than just getting beer.

Maybe escalate more with him before his bday if you feel like it’s too personal compared to how connected you are

It's very thoughtful and extremely sweet, but honestly, it might be too much if you're not officially dating. Obviously I don't know the guy, but if it were me receiving that from someone I didn't at least consider a close friend, I would be a little sketched out. You can always wait and give it to him if/when you start dating! This year just get him a bottle of booze or tickets to a game or whatever. That's my advice, seems like I'm the dissenting opinion but I'm just being honest.
