Coming off a failed talking stage where I went from only trying to have sex with her, to her liking me a lot and putting me in the "boyfriend zone" and not giving me any sex for the month we were talking and seeing eachother, I cut the relationship off because of my inability to correctly communicate what I wanted between us and sort of in a way led her on (texting and face timing everyday, picking her up on our first date with flowers etc.) I now know all these things are a no go especially if my only goal is sex.

My question is, I'm a college student and think a girlfriend right now is pointless so I'm getting all these matches on dating apps but I'm having a hard time getting my point across of just wanting sex and feel like I'm wasting time asking useless questions that I don't care about and having a hard time setting it up. Are dates almost always mandatory before getting down to it or is there some fast track way I can use, if not what are some good ideas?
