How can I strike up conversation with the girls that work at my gym desk?

Just fucking say hi. If you’ve never talked to them, introduce yourself, they’re not aliens, they’re humans. Ask them how their day is or if they have any plans on the weekend, or some work related topic. Don’t treat this like you have to say some magic word, just be casual, they’re not going to think you’re a creep for talking to them. They will think you’re a creep if you stare at them or avoid them.

Just start with a “hey how are you” as you walk in a few times. After initial contact has been established, it’s Project: Laugh. If you can make her laugh, then you’re halfway there. Don’t just start hitting on her, that’s what all the other gym douches are doing. “I didn’t see anywhere on the rules so I just want to make sure before I get kicked out of here too. Is it ok if I wear purple shorts and turn big and green when I lift?” Or some other stupid, she has to laugh, line. Naturally, the heys will progress into longer convos “how was your weekend?” Type of thing. Then you can “man this pre workout sucks. Let’s go get a coffee sometime instead” after a few weeks/month(s). The reactions to the bs lines though will tell you how she’s feeling about it before you even have to ask her out. So make sure she’s tracking before you just ask her out

Like most people here are saying just keep it casual.

A simple “hey how are you you today?” Is all you need.

Exchange names and next time you see her be sure to use her name.

Another tip that helps me when I’m at a loss for words, is to talk about myself.

For example, I walk up to the desk and don’t know what to say.

“Hey how’s your day going?” Is all I think of..

She responds with a short “good and you?” (This is a very common response)

Now I could reply with “great!” Then the convo dies.

Or what I typically do is talk about myself to spark up a more engaging topic.

So my reply would be “my days going great! Ngl I’m exhausted from work but I hit all my deadlines today so I’m hype to get in here and crush my workout.”

Her reply could be “ohh nice what do you do for work?” Or “omg haha you are hyped for today. What are you going to hit?”

The conversation can go any route. It’s your responsibility to lead the convo and keep it interesting. Small talk is boring and most people respond with little effort when they don’t know the person they’re talking to.

You start with an enthusiastic tone of voice and a wide smile, and tell her:

“Helloo, how you doin today!?”

“I’m very well thank you! What about you?”

“Well, if you keep smiling at customers like that, we might all feel too good about ourselves, but thanks for the ego boost;)”

“Haha. My bad” or “Haha you welcome i guess”

“I’m gonna head inside, i’ll talk to you later”

Obviously, here your assuming familiarity with the girl at the desk.

You are behaving in a really extroverted and outgoing way with a girl you might not truly be that familiar with and being slightly flirtatious with her. The conversation is short on purpose to make a first solid impression and because she is working and you just wanna go gradual about your interest.

After work out, when you are about to leave you can re-approach her again.

You: Hello again, what was your name again?”

She: “I’m Monica”

You: “(starts to imitate with high pitch voice) Hey i’m Monica, what’s your name sir? (Switches to a deeper voice) Oh yeah my name is Daniel, thanks for asking”

She: “Haha, i’m sorry, just was distracted”

You: Nah i’m just messing with you… you look like you’ve been working a long day now”

She: “Oh yeah, I can’t wait to go to bed”

You: “Wow, that’s a bit forward, shouldn’t we have like a drink and get to know each other first?”

She: That’s not what I meany silly hahaha. I mean i’m tired i want to sleep”

You: Well monica i still really like how you are making me feel, do you make every guy feel this way or is it just me that you have that effect on”

She: Well i don’t know how i make you feel but i’m not doing anything

You: Well right now my heart is pumping really fast, did you know? Look touch it quickly, i’m not kidding”

She: Haha, you are very forward

You: “Thank you, you are very attractive too. Hey Listen, I wouldn’t mind taking a quick coffee with you one day because we really are vibing well, what do you say you give me your number, and we make it happen”.

She: Ok sure, it’s 07xx.xxx.xxx

You: All right, i’ll give you a quick call now so you get my number, i promise i won’t call you more than a hundred times, nah just kidding.

She: Hahaha, you are crazy

You: I enjoy talking to you

She: Same here actually

You: Looks like I’m going to bed before you do so don’t be jealous

She: Hahaha, I can’t promise I won’t

You: See you around”

She: See you”

So this is how a conversation could go in a gym with the girl on the desk, if you are outgoing, high energy, flirty and playful.

Obviously some introverts might have trouble talking like this, and would need to switch it up.

It’s a marathon not a race. When you see her introduce yourself and ask for her name and say something like “I come here a lot and I still don’t know your name” or any bs then continue your workout. The next couple times when you go to the gym make sure you use her name to say hi and ask how her day is going. Also say bye to her “enjoy your shift” or some shit. When she starts to greets you is when I say you should shoot your shot and ask for a date.
