Approaching a group is easier than one-on-one because the girls feel safe, and are looking to be entertained. They will lower the level of shit they might give you because they admire your bravery
Taking one of them with you out of the group to do the nasty is of course, much more difficult. Make your endgame getting a number, or just showing all the other people at the venue what a fucking legend you are. They're paying attention. Smile and laugh. As soon as the vibe starts to die, end it and walk away with a smirk on your face. Then go find another group.
If your magic worked on any particular girls in that group, they might just make it easier for you to get some one-on-one time later that night as everyone moves around, goes to the bathroom, engages in drama, etc. Girls are smart and they'll make it easy for you if they think you're worth their time. They're out there because they're fucking bored and looking for entertainment.

This is all about herd mentality and game theory. Talk to them all, but if there’s one in particular you may ask for her number, but don’t just approach one and don’t hit on the hottest girl. But talk and joke with all of them

Go say hi, start a conversation and engage with everyone in the group. Shake hands/high five/introduce yourself to all of em. Whatever you do though, make sure not to ignore the least attractive one.. because that's the one that will usually get frustrated or jealous and kill your plans..

Pop into the middle of them and ask them a question that girls LOVE and is controversial.

"Hey girls, excuse me, but I'm having a debate with my friends about whether or not people should stay in touch with their EX's, really looking for your perspective on this..."

The ... is a place holder in which you spin around the group and make eye contact with each member in the group. Eye contact is a very important disarming body language and allows each girl to get a read off of you. But the reason you are scanning each one is to fall on one and put them on the spot reach out to shake her hand and ask her name. "Jessica, nice to meet you. I'm just some guy. So what do you think?"

She will feel pressure to speak and everyone will be waiting. No matter WHAT she says, another girl will just be barking at the bit to throw her perspective in because everyone has a different perspective on this debate and it's loaded with nuances. And EVERY single person has something to say on the topic. It sets the stage for sub-conversations to fire off in a million different tangents.

And that's what you want. The conversation breaks people up eventually into sub-conversations and you hone in on the girl that you want to talk to. This is when you can start mildly teasing and escalte it. Just don't get into heavy talks about ex's, that is definitely not the point. Get off the topic of ex's quick.

Does it work every time? No, but nothing does. I've found this to work the best of any other method of cracking a crowd of different types. See a couple with a third wheel at an art show. Open up with it.
