Have you ever considered your sister invited you because she's nervous?

I like to ask people what they’re drinking and why. Just because I think it’s interesting how peoples interests differ and it’s fun to see the correlation between personality types and what they like to drink. Or play some beer pong, or other drinking games. I always went to parties alone so I would just ask some random person to be my partner and chat them up while we play. Maybe they introduce to one of their friends and it snowballs into meeting a few more people. Or maybe none of that happens and you go find another partner.

One thing about parties is that there is always stuff happening that you can engage with and the fact that you’re there and present is going to make people a little more comfortable and willing to talk to you. So that’s a plus.

There’s no rule on who you should talk to or why you should say. Maybe try to talk to some guys first and that will lead you to a conversation with a girl. Then possibilities are endless, but one thing is for sure. This is the time in your life when you want to make yourself as uncomfortable as possible when it comes to talking with and engaging with strangers/new people. Because as you get older it only gets harder.

I think you should definitely go, and I agree that you should definitely keep an eye on your sister. Maybe even ask her for some pointers.

Talk to everyone instead of standing in a corner with a red solo cup held at chest level.

Everytime you think, "will that person find it weird if I talk to them because we don't know each other?", remember that you're at a party, and that's what you're supposed to do.

Introduce people you met to other people you met that you think they would get along with. Be the person who's building a network.

Try to flirt with people who catch your eye, but also don't put too much pressure on yourself by hinging your "success" on getting laid, or else you'll feel disappointed if you don't. There will be many more parties to come, especially if you make friends at this one. You don't have to slay on your first try, though it's a nice bonus if you do.

You really sound young and inscure. Just be glad that your sister gives you the change to meet new people an do some networking. Do worry aboutif it is weird. It is not. It is great change for you. It does not sound like you have the change to hang out with that type of people regularly. Do not have any expectations. Just go there to have fun. ps: Have to admit that I am just a dude from Germany that has no clue about the hierarchy in the american school System. I have no clue what a Junior and Freshman is. If you translate it literaly it sounds like that you and are sister are both rather low on the social ladder. But I am not sure if that has anything to do with how you are going to be treated at a party.

So please take my advice with a grain of salt if I missed some important point in hierarchy of the american school system.
