A girl recently told me that she's not into dating dating right now
Translation: "I'm not into dating you"
This is going to be difficult because she's not into you, but if you want to give it a shot, you have to show her little attention unless you're in person. This means no texting unless you're working towards setting up meeting her in person.
Yes, call it whatever you want but don't call it a date. You also need to make your intentions clear by escalating physically. Try playing with her hair, touching her arm when you laugh, stuff like that and see how she reacts. If she pulls away, it's not going to happen.
You also need to have firm boundaries with yourself and with her. Since you're interested in her as a romantic partner, do not allow her to spend time with you as friends. Otherwise you are putting yourself in the term that I hate... The friend zone.

Why did you entertain her via text without meeting up again?
Girls subconsciously sense this in guys. Some they use as texting buddies to cure their boredom.
Of the girls that I sleep with on a semi-regular basis, we don't text much. Most of them I hit up with a "you free wed night?" And get an answer, usually "yeah" or "how about thurs night?". They get my full attention in person, but not when texting.
For future reference, when you make initial contact with a girl, there needs to be some flirting over texts before she sleeps with you. Try to make her laugh as much as possible, then immediately ask when she's available. Meeting for drinks at 8pm or later is always a good sign. Again, this isn't going to work every time.. I get hit with the "what are you looking for?" And the "I'm not into dating right now" bullshit too.
The problem most guys face when they complain about the "friend zone" is they fall into the trap of keeping her company by texting on and on without moving towards meeting up because they're afraid of rejection. Shoot your shot.

She doesn’t want to date you. Move on. If she hits you with the, “I’d love to have a new friend” bullshit, don’t fall for it. You’re setting yourself up for a world of pain. She doesn’t owe you a date, so you don’t owe her a friendship.

You’re right, you’ll never know. Maybe she was bored, maybe she wanted attention, who knows. Do like you said and be 100% clear from the start. Don’t try to be friends, don’t say “let’s meet up sometime”. Make it clear you want a date.

Always try to invite them to something you are already doing or going to. I don't think I've ever in my life used the word date in my relationships.

Yes, you absolutely should define the meetup as a "date". It's polarizing, but you want things to be polarizing. With dating, it's either a "fuck yes" or a "hell no".
That being said, she's giving signals that she's not into you.

"Date" is very polarizing, but it will help to filter out the people who may want to date you.
I imagine you're asking people out in your social circle. Nothing wrong with that. Obviously, you have to kind of feel it out with the girl to see where her mind's at. Does she touch you alot? Do you hangout together alot? However, at the end of the day, you'll have to take the leap of faith and cross over from friends onto being man-to-woman.
If you're afraid of fucking up the vibe with asking them out, then you have to understand that comes with the territory. If she says no and just wants to be friend, just shrug your shoulders and move on. Don't make it awkward, and don't bring it up.

Always specific if it’s a date, they can feel led on for a friendship otherwise. I’ve had plenty of dates with strangers that assumed it was “like a friend hangout” because I didn’t specify it as a date.
Lesson learned: Always propose a date, never a hangout. Keeps the Mooches to a minimum

Could be, but I’ve usually gotten the response of “I didn’t know it was a date” but nothing much of it. I’m guessing that’s a rejection, and I’ve made the mistake of trying again and specifying it as a date the second time around. Shot down cold on that one
It’s why I preface it before hand, everyone’s on the same page and they can reject you faster and save you cash towards an accidental friendzone

The only time I use the word “date” is to say “I don’t do dates”. We’re human, not machines, so you can convince someone to do something they SAY they’re not interested in, by referring to it as something else. Women especially.
Salesmen know this intimately. You don’t try to persuade an atheist that Jesus loves him by going through his brain, the grace of God isn’t logical— you go for his heart.

If she likes you or not I can’t tell. From my own experience: I can like guys both in a platonically and sexually way. I personally hate the word dating, it comes with an expectation for flirting and romance. And I am not romantic at all, it makes me feel awkward and suffocated. I like to hang out with guys I like, but the pressure of dating is simply put, too uncomfortable and awkward… meaning I can’t relax around you.

I always use the word hangout and it seems to work better, I think cause it puts less pressure on the date. Obviously it's still a date, but not calling it that it makes everything more low key

Maybe just go with the vibe, if you feel date would work better on a certain girl than hang out, than use that. If your gut is saying use hang out that time instead, the follow your gut

In the past I have been on a lot of dates where I didn't make moves and pussied out. So the change for me to explicitly call it a date, was a good one for me. I think we usually stay away from things like this because we try to avoid rejection, in this case we are scared that when we make our intentions clear she will turn us down, but its actually way better for your own time, growth and also for your attraction in her eyes to actually be very clear about your intentions. So in my opinion yes definitely use the word date.

I feel like you know the answer.

Man what better signal do you need from her to tell you that she doesn't want to sleep with you.
Nope not necessarily, you can just use something simple like let's grab a coffee or "Are you up for drinks?"
