TL;DR

In short, I want to ask her out so bad but I want to be sure she’d say yes to avoid the next 10+ weeks being awkward. I imagine she can’t really do things or give signs that would show me that she is into me (or would say yes to a date) because we’re always in a group and it would probably be inappropriate for the situation.

Would really appreciate if you all had any advice on how I should proceed. Do I wait until the end of the semester? (really don’t want to do that). Is there a way I can nonchalantly suggest that only the two of us do something (instead of the group) without putting any pressure on her or making the situation awkward?

Thanks in advance!

My college started a few weeks ago, and on the first day, some of us were waiting outside of our classroom before class while the prior class finished up. That’s when I locked eyes with this gorgeous girl who quickly looked away once our eyes met. I knew right then that I had to get to know her. I planned on talking to her that day, but a combination of bad logistics and nerves didn’t allow that to happen. No biggie, we have all semester right? Well day two comes and we get paired up in the same group that will be working together all semester long on different assignments and projects.

This seemed like a great thing at first - didn’t even have to approach on my own and I’d get to work with her/talk to her all semester. Right?

Well this is the situation I’m in now:

We’ve talked, I think I’ve show that I’m confident, fun to be around, etc. I think she may be into me - she’s seems kinda nervous/shy/insecure around me, fidgets/plays with her hair a lot (if that even matters), and there has been some other subtle things that lead me to believe that might be the case.

Problem is that it’s really hard to do anything in a group setting.

1) I don’t really want to even be slightly flirty with her around the other two group members and she probably feels the same. Would just be awkward and weird.

2) There actually are consequences if I ask her out and she says no. Normally, if you were to ask a girl out and she says no, it’s no big deal. Even just being in her class wouldn’t have been a big deal. But having to work closely with her the rest of the semester kind of makes me feel hampered in this regard. Don’t want to make it awkward for the next 10+ weeks.
