So today I went to the gym and I saw this attractive girl at the gym. I wanted to approach her, but I heard that using my usual direct approach at the gym was creepy and undesired. So I continuously glimpsed at her to try and see what I comment to her about in a non creepy way or at least try to approach her subtly by working out near her but I couldn't find an opening or anything to say aside from "Hey you look attractive". I tried to work out near her but in the end I came across as creepy because she just left shortly after and I didn't say anything because I didn't know what to say.

What could I have done differently? I don't know how to open a conversation aside from directly so any ideas would help.
