I had issue with escalation as well, the escalation ladder, helped me a bit but I found Richard La Ruina's approach extremely more effective. Defines sexual tension as a break in conversaton with eye contact, and escalates through a series of non-invasive and slightly ambiguous signals.

Hair is too intimate for casual start to escalation. The head, face, and hair are not casual touch zones.

There should only be one step and that's to go for it. The moment you start talking to her you should be trying to move things along physically. Lots of eye contact helps, being direct helps.

The old ways of A) High Five B) Thumb War C) Touch Arm D) Kiss Routine are kind of redundant now.
