I'm oddly hung up about this girl even though I'll never see her again, everything was better than perfect and then because of that one question it all falls apart.

You're upset because she rejected you for something that is completely beyond your control. It's a bit of a hit to the ego, and it feels legitimately unfair.

You know she is attracted you (that's why she gave you her name and FB profile), you know she finds your personality at least somewhat interesting (you kept her talking for a day, and then she agreed to meet up), so this should have worked out, but then this one little thing ended it. You had a chance with her, and you didn't do or say anything to screw it up, but it still didn't happen just because of your age. That sucks. I get it.

She is probably looking for something long term / life partner. She wasn't looking for sex. She may have seen you as being her age group. She made a mistake and went cold ice on you. i.e. No harm done but move on quickly.

So firstly, realize that this number, 10, is all. in. your. head.

Have you ever been in a room full of guys trying to decide on who is a "10?" There's never any consensus. One man's "10" is another man's "6" or "7." And one guy's "10" is usually put down as a "6" or lower.

So you were putting all this pressure on yourself for an arbitrary reason.

Talk for a day and decide to meet up, she asks how old I am and I respond "20, 21 in a week." She replies, "Ahh I'll pass, but thank you for the offer!"

Lastly, it really comes off as if the age thing was an excuse. You didn't pull the trigger on asking her out soon enough. It was all wishy washy. You were both probably on vacation, so really, what was to stop you from inviting her out even that first night?

Instead you tried to have a conversation over text. Maybe you wanted to build up your own comfort, or work yourself up to asking her out.

If she were down, your age wouldn't have mattered. Your confidence was the issue.

I had a situation almost exactly like this a few years ago and I said 'hey so I woke up this morning 29 years old. Kind of a Tom Hanks in Big situation. Birthday drinks tonight?' And that worked. Maybe worth a shot but if you take her seriously about the age thing you're going to lose.
