The majority of posts on that thread pretty much singlehandedly sums up the sort of Internet chump dating attitude found on most of Reddit. That is not to disparage anyone on this site, or to say people who read Seddit are so much better, and that's not to say there isn't occasionally some very insightful posts on dating found of AskReddit or R_A. But I mean, it is what it is, by just reading a few of the posts that were most highly upvoted in there you can tell why most dudes here have trouble with women. There's only really two absolute truths when it comes to girls showing interest in guys: 1) Girls do it all the time 2) People express the same thing in many different ways. That's it! Obviously people are fucking, cause well, look at the population of this planet, and women are not all made of porcelain and made to serve the needs of all men.

Like pretty much anyone here, I'd like to wake up to have hot threesomes with Zooey Deschanel and Adriana Lima cause they just threw themselves at me and I didn't have to do shit. I'd also like to wake up and shit out ten songs that sound as good as Pet Sounds and have such a pile of money I don't have to worry about anything except what I have to eat for lunch everyday. But it just doesn't work that way.

The hard question isn't, "how do girls hit on guys?" The hard question is, "what do I honestly have to offer to women?" You can give one hundred different answers to "how do girls hit on guys" and they'd all pretty much be right to some extent. So yes, there's a decent chance that girl who smiled at you, or the girl who whatever at you actually has some interest in you. And maybe she doesn't, and maybe she rejected you when you move anyway cause she is a bitch, or is having a bad day, or you really are a creep. But that shit doesn't really matter. You can only control what you can control. You can decide yourself if you want to approach a woman, you can control how you handle a rejection, you can control how you present yourself. I've had girls blatantly, blatantly hit on me and still fucked it up. Sometimes I didn't really want them, sometimes I just couldn't get over myself, but whatever, you learn.

TL;DR - if a girl approaches you, great; if you think they like you, might as well approach them if you want; if they reject you anyway, deal with it. Waiting for everything to fall in your lap is for the birds.

Girls and guys both should put a lot of prep in before they are ready to meet your average girl or guy. Guy mostly needs things that convey social value. Girls need mostly to look attractive.

Key Areas:

in shape. This is huge. I could count the amount of girls that wouldn't look better after losing 5 lbs on one hand.
Good makeup. I personally like dark eyeshadow on girls, but that's just me.
Some sense of style that emphasizes your positive traits.

Once you have that, just kind of stand around him, looking bored, or try to give him the chance to open you. Don't pursue, because you'll look desperate, but always be interested in what he has to say.
