Interesting, but:

If they've given a fake number to someone, then they'll suddenly remember the creep they gave it to and how low-value he was. While she's remembering these negative emotions, she'll be looking at you. You've just unintentionally linked "low-value" and "creep" with her idea of you.

She may even be thinking about how desired she was by that creep, causing her to suddenly feel more important than you. She'll feel like the prize, which is the opposite of what you want.

And if all goes well, if she can't recall ever giving a fake number, the rest of your explanation makes your friend sound low-value and, by association, you as well.

Then there's the secondary problem: a good opener should lead to discussion. Your question could very easily lead to a one-word response. Then you're stuck giving an explanation to a question that she has already moved on from. The problem, I think, is that you're asking for a simple fact from her, like "What's the capitol of North Dakota, because I have a friend moving there...", rather than her opinion on something interesting.

So even if it does somehow lead to a discussion, you're starting off at an immediate disadvantage.

But my deconstruction is all theory, no practice. Get out there and try it. If it doesn't work, it's not a big deal. You can fix it or move on.

When you are using "a friend" to root your opener, then your friend has to be awesome - not some loser that girls give fake numbers to. This is how a woman will translate your opener: "a friend of mine" => "I"

Hmm.. it has potential but could also be problematic for reasons Vijchti already mentioned.

How about this variant instead: "hey, quick question. Lets say you are interested in a guy but he's not that into you. Do you think he should get your number and then never call/txt you, give you a fake number or tell you outright that he's not interested?" and then lead on about a story about a friend who keeps getting hit on by girls and he's trying to think of a way of letting them down gently.

Yes and no. The lass may think you may be referring to yourself and not your friend. As an opener it may not be good, but later on in the conversation could lead to some humorous conversation.

Also, I had a girl once come to me and give me a number only to find out it was her brothers. Rather disappointing if I do say.

It might be a bit weird. Girls remember shit. If you hand them a number, you had better call right infront of them to "exchange." They might be worried you gave them a fake one.

I might cut the "Hey ladies." It seems like fine opening material, but if you dont transition to real convo it will seem a bit weird if you left it at that if you make a move later.

EDIT: Actually, I just realized you'll be getting their number, not the other way around ( duh). It seems okay. Test it out. I feel like it needs to be tested first.

In regards to that I would make it your friend gave a guy a fake number and you didn't approve or something along those line. But I don't really buy into the state association or trying to look high value or low value, because it will more often then not mess you up. If you watch guys who are good with women they do a lot of stuff that the community considers low value or beta, but guess what? they still get laid, so just don't worry about it and just have fun.

Wtf? Do girls do this often? I remember one of the hottest girls in middle school just came up to my friend and offered to give him her number. It was the rejection hotline.
