First off I just want to say that my girlfriend is nothing but loyal, we never had trust issues and she has never cheated on me and is an all around good girlfriend. These last two months have been a little difficult. I just started a new career and we barely see each other (which will only be temporary). We also live together and have been getting in little fights for the last two months. One night she got really drunk and showed me her phone and left. Unknowing she had it on her iMessages and a preview of a text conversation caught my eye with a guy I didnt really know. FYI i dont snoop. It was right there and and the words "attracted" caught my eye and if that is considered snooping then i fucked up, whoops. So I clicked the conversation open. It was a short conversation with an old friend. She texted him out of the blue, "how did you feel about me when you saw me?" (She met up with him and a couple of friends 3 months ago while on a trip that i knew of). He replies along the line of being attracted to her and that his heart jumped that she asked. She then texts him back that what she did was inappropriate and that we weren't 100% at the moment. She ended the conversation saying "the feeling was mutual". Saying she was attracted to him as well.

I confronted her the next morning about the conversation and she lied about some details but finally cried and confessed about texting this guy and being attracted to him. It was only once and she swears she wont do it again. She never had sex or anything with him, she swears. She just had a connection or some shit with him so she says. I cant help but feel betrayed. I work so hard and take such good care of her all the time. Im young, fit, have my own place and a great career. I felt bad but for some reason after she apologized I couldn't help but feel turned off by her and disgusted of her so I broke up with her and gave her some time to move out. She has been texting me a lot and saying she loves me and will never do it again. She just felt lost at the moment. She is a great girlfriend. She is smart, sexy, and fun but I just cant help but dislike her. She is still trying to work things out with me currently.

I guess what im asking is: Am I going a little overboard breaking up with her? Should I give her a chance? Am I overreacting? I dont know who else to ask.

tl;dr GF texts and old friend and they both tell each other they are attracted to each other. I break up with her but I dont know if I am overreacting and I should forgive her and give her another chance.
