To add to this, if you are in a club/bar/nightlife setting, just have a good time. Building social proof through interactions with others, whether they be the friends you came with, or the other pretty girl hello9 mentioned, will act as a DHV, because hey, who doesn't like a fun maker?
Also, if you are in conversation with another girl (social proof), and are in proximity of target girl (who is mid-convo herself), you have more liberty to interrupt her conversation if you ask her for her opinion on something (related to what you and "other" girl were talking about first).
The social proof you establish with the other girl allows you to pick the target girl's brain about something, a very natural way to starting a group dialogue (and you're not just another guy hitting on her. By having a girl already in conversation with you, you disqualify yourself as a potential suitor and lower her ASD shield).

This has got to be my biggest problem by far. Where I live no female worth approaching is going to go out alone.
Please, more info!

I listen into what the group is talking about( with my back or shoulder towards them ), and when I see a chance to make a comment they might find interesting, I turn to them suddenly( which usually makes them slow the conversation and look at me for half a second, which is a good thing ) and declare in a loud( but not horribly loud ) fashion my comment.
From there I act depending on the interest their body language indicates( smiling AT ME, eye contact WITH ME, head and body turning TO ME ): - If they ignore me, I'll go back to whatever I was doing( but that has never happened unless I was shy and quiet ); I might or might not try that set again. Trying later seems to be a slightly positive idea, while digging myself deeper in the hole at that moment often would result in me being ignored later, even if I eject afterwards. - If they show some of the interest qualities, I say something else related to the current topic( might or might not be related to what I just said, it's better if it's isn't ) and if their body language doesn't improve, I eject and try later. - If they show all 4 of the qualities, specially if it's not just for a brief moment, I'm in baby!
It's not really hard, as long as you say something interesting they'll give you a chance to get into the group.
Standard indirect group theory together with this works marvels( talking to the person who is less likely to be of value to you first, being cocky/funny, social proof, etc. )
