Granted he thinks he is helping; on the contrary he is framing me as an average guy that would never dare stand up to a woman (catch her shit tests) or show a shred of sexiness or an ability to take care of things on my own.

Joe is a great guy.

Joe is a nice guy.

Common isn't he an attractive guy.

My friend is awesome, he does construction.

He's a stand-up guy.

This all works to extinguish any heat that may have been found between the ladies legs. At worst it frames me into what the girl would file logically under bf material; effectively killing any chance of things actually moving forward. I'm not in it for the quick lay, but I am all for moving forward; which tends to include a quick lay. I find the next article explains what I mean since that is where this realization came from. http://www.girlschase.com/content/secrets-getting-girls-move-faster

So how do I shut this down without coming off negatively.

"Mike stop trying to talk me up, you suck at it."

"Mike stop talking."

"Talk yourself up Mike. I can handle it from here."

"Talk yourself up Mike. You need it more than I do."

Talk yourself up Mike. If she wants to hear what somebody has to say about me see can look at Time's person of the year."

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

Number three seems like the smartest way to handle this. I don't want to be a dick because then I come off as low value because I make it obvious that his talking me up was enough to threaten my chances. I don't want to lower his value either, I suppose I already do that enough by telling him he needs to quit doing something.

If I approach him outside of context he will have no idea what I am trying to convey. He's always been a be yourself + numbers and something will stick guy. Unfortunately my "be yourself" was a slobbish introvert that couldn't carry a conversation; always talked about just finding a girlfriend. So I have in effect trained him to treat me this way and try to help me out. I never knew his helping was killing my chances and improving his before. I may consider talking him up if he doesn't get the point after I tell him to stop doing it.

I'm sure you guys have plenty of suggestions and tips for this. I'm curious to see how others would handle this and why they would handle it in that way.
