Seriously, try opening with "What's a good icebreaker?" It will work JUST as well as OP's link and it has the added benefit of being something you genuinely give a shit about.

Nice work. Anything that opens them up, without being too forward too fast is always great.

What's worked for me is this one:

If you had an entire day to yourself, what would you do?

It usually comes with follow up questions, which makes it feel like a game. Stuff like "do I have unlimited money?" or "am I living my current life, or any life I want?" and then you can start making up rules as you see fit.

That's a good question, but what you really need is less of the "technique" stuff, and more of the solid inner game, so it won't matter what you ask when the time times.
