So maybe I was just watching too much ted-talks (original reddit, give credit) but after watching this I'm kinda wondering how to have more interesting and creative conversations.

When I'm with friends we have enough established conversation topics and generally are quite unstifled which leads to interesting stuff quite quickly. But one thing, even though this is interesting conversation, often it is just updating on our lives and whatnot. Really creative conversation is only coming on sometimes. And when It does it usually provides for inside jokes and recurring conversation for long times. For example, one time we talked about how to best create a collaborate text editor, another time we were standup creating a story, which resulted in so many inside jokes that after we could go for half an hour without anybody else understanding a word. Those are the kind of conversations I wanna have more. Creating and sharing really unique stories.

So when I'm conversing with people I just met, it usually is harder. (who would have thought) There usually is a kinda satisfying conversation going on, like about travelling, youth, media, sports, drugs. But somehow those are the tracks that all have been taken a 1000 times. Dammit I even find it easier to talk about politics and sex. Every time I get on the verge of really interesting stuff it kinda dies off quickly, which I think is because one feels he can't really contribute because of lack of expertise and the other one at some point suspects that he is boring if he goes on rambling about that stuff.

For example I was out meeting new people yesterday and I was with that one girl. She was telling me how she wanted to be a movie or TV director and has been in some extra roles of local productions ... somehow we didn't elaborate much further, I wish we had. At another point I was telling her about operating systems and how I think open source is important, I didn't elaborate further because I was worried I would bore her when I got into too much technical stuff.

So I kinda would like to hear from you guys when you get bored with a conversation and how you get into interesting/unique topics.
