You told her that you are speaking to her for no other apparent reason than that you like her ass. i) By "want something", I mean: want sex. It's fine to ask for an opinion or something like that, but the butt thing is just too obvious and gives the game away.
ii) Push/pull...sure, but surely it's the other way round? Show her you have value, then push her away, then she'll want it.

It's not about being afraid to give the game away or fear of rejection. It's about a crude opener with no substance or interest, which immediately says to the girl that the op wants something from her. It might work when she's alone, but the issue is that the op's method when she's not is clearly not working.
