this might be a long one, read the first paragraph and there's a TL;DR at the bottom

what's up seddit, before i tell the story, i think it's important to note that this is my first time going out solo and that i'm the epitome of SAP (seriously). this part might get me downvoted for the racism, but I truly believe it's important that i reveal that i'm Asian (because IMO, being Asian can produce a different perspective on the American dating scene).

Anyways, today i was sitting at home after i got back from getting pizza with my friends. i was chilling with with my roommate, but he went out to meet up with a girl, so i was home alone on a friday night. not cool. after another hour or so of much debating and reading the other solo field reports and being a loser, i decide that i'm going out and just having a single beer (1am-ish).

I take a shower, get dressed and i'm on my way. I go to this bar that I'm a semi-regular at and immediately after entering, I head straight for the only empty seat at the bar (right next to a couple of HB5s). I sit down and order a guinness and right when I did, an HB6 comes up to the bar and orders three drinks. we make eye contact so I open her before i get the chance to develop AA.

we talked for about ten minutes, but the summarization of the convo goes:

me: are all those drinks for you?

her: laugh what do you think?

me: i think you have a drinking problem, but that's cool, i don't judge (felt pretty slick for that one, mental self- pat on the back)

her: laughs again no, they're for my friends...are you here alone?

me: yeah, i got bored at home

her: oh, well if you get lonely, you should join me and my friends, we're playing pool in the back room

me: laugh you wish, but if it happens, i might take you up on that

we small talk more and she eventually leaves, after mentioning where she and her friends are-multiple times, i might add.

The 2 set of HB5s that i firstly sat next two were immersed in their conversation. i noticed one of their phone's (iphone) LED lit up every time they got a notification. I tap one of them on the shoulder and ask how she got her phone to do that. she does it for me on my phone and she compliments my phone background (andy warhol's banana). i'm not interested in anyone in the whole place, but i figure whatever, so i tell her to text me to make sure it works. she hands me her phone for me to text myself, I write out, "you're cool" and text myself and hand the phone back to her. she reads what i texted myself and laughs and says something like, "can't argue with that " her friend then taps her and says something, then they say bye to me and leave the bar (at this point, my mental back is swollen and red from all the self-patting).

after they leave, a group of three guys come up to the bar and order drinks. one of them opens me and asks if i'm having a good time. we talk for a little while and he buys me a jager bomb (fuck yeah, i love jager bombs!) he, his friends and i down the shots together and talk more then decide to play pool (different area from the girl from earlier).

we make bets that whoever loses has to buy the other player a drink.

i win, i decline on the drink offer because I have to wake up for something tomorrow, but we exchange names and whatnot for future drinking.

TL;DR: i made a few new friends and it literally took me about twenty seconds to get a phone number, i'm not planning to text her, but jesus christ, i'm baffled that this stuff works. thanks seddit.

takeaway: going out solo is not anywhere near as dreadful as it sounds, in fact, it's pretty badass.

you're not attached to a group, so you don't have to round up your posse before changing venues

you have the liberty of doing whatever the hell you want, when you want to

you also don't have the fear of embarrassment if you're with friends and you get shot down by one of your sets.

no one gives a shit about you and no one's paying attention to you, so there's no point in being self-conscious.
