Just acknowledge it in a joking way. "Right now you're probably thinking wtf is up with this guy's speech patterns. It's because I've got these braces that make me sound like a dork. Fortunately they come off soon and I can back to just being a dork instead of sounding like one."
Vulnerability is powerful.

There are two things that I have done to overcome something similar. First, is I started recording myself on my computer (video cam) and just talking to it. Then I would go back, watch it, and adjust what I thought needed to be fixed. If you do this enough, you may be able to alter the way you talk, depending on how severe your change is, so that you can cover this up. This is how I was able to get rid of a small slur and the filler words in my conversations with men.
Second, is to just address it head on and not give a fuck. Some of my friends actually find this attractive in men, because it caters to a 'boyish' fetish they may have harbored within them. It shows confidence that you are trying to better yourself and other women may love this. As long as your confidence is high, I really don't think it will effect your game.

Actually, It was from my accent and my jaw. I'm from the south (Which cursed me with enough speech issues) and I had TMJ and some issues with it when I was younger. In my later years caused me to have some slur to my words. This caused me to become less confident so I used filler words as my crutch (I still find myself using them from time to time) and it was really hurting my game. I found that when I visually saw myself doing these things, it gave me the chances to adjust it.

Don't have much advice on getting around the speech impediment really, but at least it's a temporary problem. You don't have to sweat it.
I would say see a speech therapist, but again - temporary problem.

Good post. I actually have a problem similar to this. I have a speech impediment as well (stuttering) that is fairly mild and I've improved it a lot, but it still comes up randomly and can completely stop me in my tracks.
Does anyone have any tips for this? I was in speech therapy for most of grade school and it got to the point in high school that I had gone almost a year without any improvement and therapy just wasn't helping anymore.
I'm under the impression that this is instantly a red flag for girls as well. Most of the time I don't even acknowledge it while I'm talking to keep the conversation flowing, but then I'll get stuck on a word for a good 5 seconds and they're probably wondering if I'm having a seizure or something.
It sounds like I should just acknowledge it in a a joking manner, but I kind of equate it to the guy with the amputated leg making fun of himself because it's a serious and permanent issue. Advice?

As s stutterer myself I have found you have to be very up front about it. Once you tell them (which is easy over the web, a bit tricky in person but very doable) one of three things will happen. They will just go with it and think its cool you are so cool with it, they will ask you questions about it and the conversation continues, or they will be a bitch/dick in which case fuck them. A negative reaction says a great deal about them and nothing about you. At no point do I suggest this is easy, of course, but that makes the victory all the sweeter!

very true. If they're going to be a dick or a bitch to you about it, they're not worth your time.

Took me a long time to figure this out. A long time...

I tend to do that too thinking "oh they just don't understand, but I can help them to understand", but honestly, it's not worth your time and your effort will probably be fruitless. There's plenty of other people who won't be a dick about it.
