I think the other advice given here might be off base (but may be right). Here's a little devils advocate.

We need more context for this situation. You don't mention the country or ethnicity of the people you hang out with which is very important in answering this question. There are a few Asian countries where touching higher ups is a big no-no culturally. While the higher up may be okay with it to save face or maybe he just DGAF, his people might see it as offensive. If you're in a country/area where fights easily break out, it might be worth checking yourself. No reason to act alpha if people will beat the shit out of you for it. Most people on seddit are from safer communities so I don't think it would cross their minds. Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid...

That "big shot" guy is still a normal human being who likes to have fun with newly met people. I mean it's not a god. I think your friends were indeed jealous of your skills to make someone feel comfortable around you.

You're friends are the ones being crazy. You're doing it right. Make sure to throw in a "my girlfriend used to ..." so there's no ambiguity about your sexuality. That's the only thing that would make someone else uncomfortable.

From what you said, it sounds like you are well on your way to having instant and tremendous social proof in that bar. I'd keep it up.
