While I'm no expert on the subject, the purpose of "approaching" on the dance floors is to use nonverbal contact to actually isolate a lady and take things from there. Generally, relax, don't over think things, and have fun while trying to get her attention. Something as simple as a smile and dancing adjacent to her can give you the opportunity to take her hand or wave her off to grab a seat or drink and actually open in the more traditional sense.

The other option would be to wait until she leaves the dance floor (possibly with another guy!) then open her as soon as she sits down. The perk of hesitating is that it gives you an easy opener in the form of "Hey, I couldn't help but notice you had some nice moves on the dance floor. You wouldn't happen to be a dancer by sport?" which can be easily followed up with an introduction and discussing interests. Additionally, it's a pretty reasonable reason to notice someone albeit it will fall flat if the lady is, in all honesty, a noticeably bad dancer (you'll be called out if that is the case).
