It's much like the best office personality: own who you are and always say as much as you can with the fewest words. Make your jokes count, speak slightly slower and lower to females, and don't be afraid to smile or laugh.

I say this because I find that it makes people uncomfortable if I keep "in state" at work, and it's much like I found in classes at school. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter all that much as long as you own it, but I've always felt the most attractive girls in this setting are more attracted to the ones I described in the first paragraph.

All these commenta hqve some good advice, and I was just thinking the same question. My realization was that answering the teachers questions will help you establish presence. I started speaking up and I was not a ghost anymore

I'm not sure why you're asking us how you should act. I'm guessing it's because you've decided that there's something wrong with you acting like you.

If so, think about this: if your confidence sucks, it doesn't matter how you try to act, it will suck. That old adage, "Just be yourself," really should be, "Just be confident in who you are." Of course, easier said than done, right? Well, there are some things you can do to help matters.

Go throw yourself into an activity you can feel good about: something that challenges you and makes you feel good about yourself.
Work on ditching negative thought patterns. Aside from what the linked video says, I'd recommend really working on ensuring that your thoughts are accurate when compared to reality. Because some negative thoughts are helpful. If they're accurate: they're often calls to action.
Rejoice in small victories, if bigger ones are currently eluding you.
