Yeah this post is really timely. I've been lurking here for a while and I've often felt that it's very US-centric in its advice. In my experience, Australia as a society is quite prudish when it comes to the concepts and philosophy behind "pick up".

Recently I've been canvassing a lot of people, and anecdotally I would say that many people (men and women) appear quite hostile to the idea of day game. Girls I speak to don't seem to want to even entertain the thought of hooking up with any male who's not known to them or who doesn't exist within any context that they can readily identify.

I work with an American girl who has been here for 5 years and whose judgment on these issues I trust. She observes that Australians are quite "closed" compared to Americans when it comes to generating romantic connections.

I think the obersvation by /u/LoGun_ that it is quite easy to deflate Australian guys who attempt to AMOG is accurate. Australians have a thing called the "tall poppy syndrome". This means that the concept of not letting anyone get "too big for their boots" is deeply ingrained in our national psyche. And it has the effect of self-regulation. Individuals regulate themselves out of fear of being cut down by the tall poppy syndrome that exists in others.

Bottom line, I think there is a real need for an Australian seddit. I think our culture, environment and mindset is sufficiently different to the US to justify calibrating some of seddit's theories to suit the Australian context.

You might just be going to 'that type' of establishment. There is a huge difference between some clubs / bars and if you happened to only go to a couple of the same high calibre you'd get the opinion that every guy is buff, confident, cashed up and sporting a smoking hot women or two by their side. On the other hand, you might have too many teeth left to dare venture into another joint.

Interesting. I just spent a few weeks in the states and I was surprised by how timid most guys there were so it's interesting that you see it from the other side.

Not sure why it is... Maybe the guys in the states are just too afraid of a sexual harassment lawsuit!

If you really want to blow your mind apart, head to Colombia.

The girls there are unimaginably hot and the guys, for the most part, and the most timid and reluctant little fish I've EVER seen.

It's incredibly common to see nerdy, timid little guys with stunningly hot women because there's just not any competition. It's crazy.

I didn't see any other major difference between the states and Australia other than being happy seemed to be a much bigger deal in the states than in Australia. The easiest way to stand out in all the bars I went into was to have a good time and enjoy yourself. It didn't seem like there were really many dudes who really knew how to have a good time and it really separated you from the rest of the crowd. On the other hand, being fun and enjoying yourself barely gets a raised eyebrow in most Sydney bars.

That's all I could see.

I've talked about this in depth with a friend, as someone who has lived 7 years in the US, and the rest of my life in Sydney, Australia, the differences you pointed out are correct, but you can go deeper.

Australian guys are more AMOGy, but are easier to Anti-AMOG, because they are a LOT more self concious. Calling them out and/or humiliating someone for being a loser is significantly easier. In the US, guys are a lot more confident with themselves, so when they do talk AMOG it up, it's harder to bring them down. With Australian guys, so long as you are a single step ahead, you win.

I'm not sure about the better looking comment, but we do have less fat people, yes.

you should learn the 'aussie lean'. Stand next to a girl at the bar at 2am, and start leaning on her, depending on how the dice rolls, you can get lucky when the girl realises that its easier to give in to sexual advances rather than trying to fend off a large Australian male.
