Good on you! Better small action than no action. The gym, coffee shops, the mall, etc - are all GREAT ways to meet women, I prefer them better to a bar, really. It's called "day game", there's several forums and books on it that will make it easier for you to meet women.

There is no such thing as "coming out of your comfort zone too early". The best time to have done it was last year, the second best time is now.
